The State of Things

So, I've been considering the feedback that I've gotten about what I should do with my blog. (I would still appreciate more feedback, and I'd especially like it if people would vote on the spiffy poll I added to the sidebar!)

I've also been considering what I would like to get from my blog. And I've made a few decisions. Some I'll tell you about and some that I won't.

  • I'm going to learn how to draw.
  • I'm going to focus on making tutorials and sharing information
  • I'm going to focus on presentation, especially writing

I'll keep you up to date not only on my attempts to learn drawing (when I can fit it in) but I also plan to revisit my past drawings, y'know, just for fun.

I'm planning on talking more about my now-somewhat-dormant love of furniture refinishing and general craftiness.

Finally, I'm going to try to improve my writing and find my voice as a blogger.

So there you have it.

From your (the reader's) end, I'd greatly appreciate comments and feedback. Heck, even give me a little criticism. How can I improve the site?

Please make use of my nifty little funny, interesting, and cool squares at the bottom of the posts. (Not too difficult, just check the box if you think the post was funny, interesting, or cool.)

And COMMENT! Please?

Oh, and if you aren't yet, feel free to publicly “Follow” me.

–hearts,

Jeffrey

PS–Last Poet Standing is tonight at the Crossroads @8. If you're in Rexburg and you like poetry, BE THERE! And if you happen to be there, vote me into the next round! :)

Help Me Help You... or something...

So, I'm certainly not tapped out as far as blogging goes, but I decided that I was going to take a few days off to see if any inspiration came as to what I should blog about.

Basically, all I’ve come up with is asking my readers if there’s anything they particularly like me to blog about.
So what would you guys like to see more of on my blog?

  • More pictures with doodles on them?
  • More random design projects of mine?
  • Drawings?
  • Poetry?
  • Random thoughts?
  • Passionate arguments? (I doubt I’ve posted any of these, but I sure could start!)
  • Craft projects?
  • Tutorials?
  • Cooking-related items?
  • Awesome stuff I find on the internet?
  • Writing related ideas and tips?

These are just a few ideas from the top of my head, some of which I’ve implemented in the past and others are just possibilities.

The more I read about blogging the more I understand that good blogs provide something valuable to their readers. What can I offer you?

Please put your thoughts in the comments. Let me know what I can do to make this blog a valuable experience for you! Or mark down what you'd like in the poll to the right at the top.

So, to summarize: I want to publish valuable content. Please let me know what that is. Give me any ideas about what I can do to make this blog a valuable resource for you. And PEASE COMMENT! :)

(I'm totally serious! If you want me to consider learning and posting about how to tap dance, let me know!)

The Necessity of Interchange Fees

Last semester I took a professional writing class and was required to write an 8-page persuasive paper about changing a policy of my choice.

Given that I am married to a wonderful woman who works at a credit union, I decided to write about a topic that she could help me out with. :) So I elected to write about interchange fees.

Ultimately, the paper netted me an A- (which I happily accepted). We had a follow-up project where we had to trim the paper down and optimize it to be a web document.

I chose to experiment with Wordpress and created The Necessity of Interchange Fees.

The topic of interchange fees boils down to money. And it relates to you in that you're being charged more of it. While it is certainly a complex topic with many sides to it, essentially: we're getting screwed.

And a Happy New Year

So I've redesigned my blog yet again. Y'know, just for fun. I'm sure I won't keep it like this long, because I pretty much stole it. Or rather, I've redesigned it to honor a print that I fell in love with. A thousand points to anyone that can tell me what it is.

Anyways, Happy New Year!

New Look?

So I've decided to take a leaf out of my sister-in-law's book by playing around with my blog. Maybe a bit too cheery for such a zombie-intensive blog as mine, but I guess it'll do for an optimistic new year. And if you're reading this on facebook, make sure that you click the "View Original Post" link, so you can see it.

The 8-bit Fox

I like foxes. They represent a certain... intelligence that I appreciate. Sure, they stand for slyness and maybe even a little deceit, but that's just because they can. :)
I also like 8-bit. There's a simplistic beauty contained in those blocky shapes.

And it's a paradox: the complexity of the fox contrasted against the simplicity of 8-bit—yin and yang, as it were.

So, in the spirit of self-branding, that's my logo.

And it's also the name of my new blog. For my Writing for Communication Career class, I have to update a blog 2 or 3 times a week, and I decided that I'd just start a new one for that. We'll see how it goes. If it magically sparks a desire to blog more, I may combine the two when it's all over. I dunno. Anyways, I'm thinking it'll be about geek culture, because I'm so well versed. :)

PS- I can't stop watching this video.

Life

Well, my wife has gotten back into blogging hardcore, as has my dear friend, so I think I should too.

Life has been interesting lately. I have been married for two and a half months, I'm living in my own apartment, I'm going to school full-time, working part-time, and I'm in a play.

My poor wife has been stricken with weird, crazy health issues, but is amazing in her resilience, despite life's difficulties.

I have what I think is a cracked rib, due to a rehearsal mishap, which makes most aspects of life surprisingly painful. I hate Spanish. Well, I don't hate Spanish, but my brain certainly seems to. And I just forgot to do my homework that was due at midnight, Saturday.

And yet, life is good. We certainly are blessed far beyond any deserving. Temporally, mentally, emotionally, heck, even physically, we are doing great. I'm grateful to wonderful friends and family, old and new. Life is good.

And I love it.

...and I love this.

It's official!

All right folks, it's official, I am a part of the internet! I like to do random google searches of my name every once in a while to see if I actually pop up, and for the most part, I only showed up on old Drama tournament rosters and more recently facebook accounts, but NOW, a link to my blog shows up at maybe number twenty, or thereabouts. Whoo-hoo!

am I ready to lose my blogging virginity?

ok, this is the first attempt. I'll admit, my beloved sister Camie just made it too darn appealing to pass over. I guess we'll see how this goes...
