I was this guy today. It's obviously crappily photoshopped, but it's all I had patience for. Yesterday morning I was fine. I was determined to clean the house and I did. And my wife and I went shopping and spent way more money than we should have (but on stuff that we really need... most of it.) Anyways, on the drive to Idaho Falls, I started feeling something in my throat, and the free fall began. Over the course of the next few hours I could feel my body shutting down, system by system.
My throat was getting worse and I could start feeling something going on in my right nostril (my wife laughed at my level of specificity while describing my symptoms, but I maintain that nothing had been going on in the left nostril (which is, sadly, no longer the case, as is evidenced by the tissue I have shoved inside of it))
I made a pre-emptive (ok not really "pre-emptive" as the cold was already in mid-onslaught) decision to stay in bed and do nothing but rest (except for a brief and terrifying stint in a jet-tub) but, alas, my body has already succumbed.
I was surrounded by sick people for weeks and was healthy as an ox until now, when they're all better and I'm just starting. Irritation. And the fact that I went to bed at 9 last night was counterbalanced by the fact that I was awake at 3 this morning.
Anyways, I doubt this post is all that coherent as I'm high on the rage of life.

I'm Tired... Not Vivacious
When I asked myself what mood I was in today, the two words that immediately jumped into my head were:
tired and vivacious. (Perhaps a tad oxymoronic, but that's my brain for you.)
But then I looked up vivacious in a dictionary and saw:
So I've decided to just be tired today.
I'm tired because I decided to wake up at 6:30 every morning.
And that's what I've been doing. Every day.
Ok, I'm really only on Day 3, but I feel good about the decision—despite the fact that I promised myself to never consistently wake up at 6:30 in the morning a week after I got home from my mission.
- Maybe one of these days I'll actually eat breakfast
- It helps me fall asleep at night
- It gives me a chance to seize the day (aka'd as: finish my homework)
Speaking of homework, I'm enjoying this semester. I should graduate in December of this year. That's pretty crazy. I've always taken a pretty laid-back approach to planning my schooling and it's just a little weird for me to actually have a plan laid out. You can thank my wife for that. :)
Anyone know of any good technical communication programs?
Anyways, I'm not sure why I'm giving this update, but I thought I'd try asking myself some questions. (Hence the "what mood am I in?")
Y'know, just cuz.

Genuine Jeffrey.
So, for whatever reason, I've decided that I want to get into blogging. In October of 2008 I decided that I wanted to take the plunge and lose my blogging virginity and now I've decided to take our relationship on to the next level. (After all, my relationship with blogging can't be purely sexual.)
Which leads me to my next point. I censor myself a lot on my blog. And I'm not talking about keeping my blog from being rated R or anything like that. I just find that I'm ultra-sensitive about what conclusions my readers might take from my words and how it might affect their perceptions of me. After all, my feed does automatically upload to Facebook and I have many friends who are nothing more than casual acquaintances, friends who I only knew through my mission, and friends from the religious institution BYU-Idaho.
So I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to be more honest with the internet about my online presence. And this will make (I hope) blogging a lot more enjoyable for me. (And hopefully anyone who might be reading.) I've asked myself why I don't simply write in a journal where I don't have to worry about what people will think and I guess that the answer is that I have never been able to consistently write in a journal. And there's something interesting about sending little pieces of myself into the interweb. Maybe someone will read and be affected.
Or maybe someone will read and be annoyed.
Or just not care.
But in any case, I invite anyone who gets sick of my blog feed to hide it.
But more importantly, I invite you to read it.
So, there.
The curtain is drawn back.
Please pay attention to the man behind the curtain.

In the spirit of a New Year
I've been thinking a lot about the idea of beginning a new year, which of course, is wrapped up in the idea of the life/death/resurrection cycle (which is why I posted a picture of the Firebird from the Firebird Suite from Fantasia 2000—I decided that that was close enough to a phoenix). I'm not extremely familiar with the mythology—
but I have:
but I have:
- read Harry Potter
- played Final Fantasy (summons, ahoy!)
- and skimmed the Wikipedia page

Life
Well, my wife has gotten back into blogging hardcore, as has my dear friend, so I think I should too.
Life has been interesting lately. I have been married for two and a half months, I'm living in my own apartment, I'm going to school full-time, working part-time, and I'm in a play.
My poor wife has been stricken with weird, crazy health issues, but is amazing in her resilience, despite life's difficulties.
I have what I think is a cracked rib, due to a rehearsal mishap, which makes most aspects of life surprisingly painful. I hate Spanish. Well, I don't hate Spanish, but my brain certainly seems to. And I just forgot to do my homework that was due at midnight, Saturday.
And yet, life is good. We certainly are blessed far beyond any deserving. Temporally, mentally, emotionally, heck, even physically, we are doing great. I'm grateful to wonderful friends and family, old and new. Life is good.
And I love it.

So much to blog about and so little motivation...
So I'm back from Europe. Amazing. I have volumes to say about it (though doubtless it'll remain unsaid.) I have a chair to blog about and a filing cabinet. And I really don't have a lot pressing on my time but a nagging job search which I'm procrastinating. Well, lets hope I find the motivation soon.

I'm Going to Europe!!!
Ok, so I'm leaving for Europe tomorrow morning at 8:30. Or at least that's when we're meeting at the SLC Airport Terminal. After that, Linds and I are off to Cincinnati to London to Canterbury to Paris to Rome to Siena to Florence to Lovere to Vienna to Salzburg to Munich to HOME! I will most certainly be blogging about my European adventure when I get home and I just bought a new Canon Powershot A720 IS to document the trip (NEVER buy anything from kingscell.com. EVER!) So don't worry, the interval between now and my next blog entry won't really be anymore than the usual one. Happy travels!
PS- And I got a youtube account.

Revolutionary Road
At the suggestion of my favorite older brother, I am reading Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates as the subject of a book report for my Creative Writing Class.
Though I am only half way through the book (the report is due tomorrow morning) I am struck by how freaking much I like it. It strikes the same chord that The Catcher in the Rye struck in me. There's just about books that comment about humanity, in all its darkness and vocalize the thoughts that I have, but am never able to intellectualize. I just find them very intriguing. So I'm giving it one thumb up (and I expect that when I finish the other half I'll be able to supply the other thumb.)

Humanities Tour of Europe
From Rexburg to London to Paris to Rome to Florence to Verona to Vienna to Salzburg to Munich back to Rexburg again. That is the European Humanities tour that I will be taking from the College with my dear friend :) Lindsay. We depart for London on April 27 and fly home on May 18. What started out as an enjoyable fantasy materialized into a future reality on Halloween when I received an email of acceptance.
I guess it hasn't really sunk in yet, that I'll be spending almost a month in some of the most famous cities in the world. Visiting the cradle of Western Civilization, seeing works of art and architecture that I've heard about for years.
Life is good.

Cortez' Blue/Green Gold
Back in 70's Coach Bill Bowerman was trying to create a better running shoe... his efforts created the Nike Cortez. Oh yeah, we're talking early 70's beauty. Soon after seeing them at Urbanoutfitters.com, I just knew that I had to have them. And considering that the shoes I was wearing at the time I bought them were 6 years old, I figured I owed it to myself. I'm in love with everything but the toe room but I'm sure that as I break them in, that'll get better.
